Yes, Social Security registration is free for non-European foreign students enrolled in a French higher education establishment.

Travel insurance in France covers medical expenses that are not reimbursed by Social Security. It is highly recommended to reduce your health costs. You can also take out civil liability insurance, which will be required by your school or for your work placement.

In the event of hospitalisation, you must call your insurance’s assistance centre. The costs are covered at 100% of the actual costs, up to €150,000.

Medical expenses other than hospitalisation, such as consultations, visits, X-rays, analyses and pharmacy, are reimbursed at 100% of actual costs, up to €150,000.

In the event of loss, theft or damage to baggage, you are covered for up to €3,000 per person, with a limit of €360 per valuable item and a maximum of €720. The excess per case is €30.

If your baggage is delayed for more than 24 hours, you will receive compensation of up to €180 per person. For flight delays of more than 6 hours, compensation is €30 per hour, up to a maximum of €150.
